A Manual J load calculation tells you how much heating and cooling your home needs, room by room. That’s the starting point, not the finish line.
• If Manual S is wrong, the equipment chosen doesn’t match the load. An AC that’s too big cools the air fast but shuts off before it removes humidity, so the house feels cold and clammy and mold has a place to grow. One that’s too small runs nonstop and never catches up.
• If Manual D is wrong, the ducts can’t deliver the airflow each room needs. The equipment can be sized perfectly and you’ll still have hot bedrooms, a cold living room and a system working against its own ductwork.
Manual J tells us what the house needs. Manual S picks equipment that can deliver it, including humidity removal. Manual D gets that air to every room. Skip or guess any one of the three and the other two don’t matter.
Most load calculations run on default assumptions: a guessed number for how leaky the house is, a guessed number for duct leakage, a guessed number of people. We replace the guesses with measurements.
As a BPI-certified company, we test the building itself:
• Blower door test: how much outside air actually leaks into your home, instead of a default value.
• Duct leakage test: how much air your ducts really lose into the attic.
• Insulation, windows, attic and equipment location: inspected, not assumed.
And we look at how your family actually lives in the house:
• How many people live there and which rooms they use.
• Cooking, showers, laundry, pets and home offices, all of which add heat and moisture.
• The temperature and humidity you want to live at.
Those details change the load, and especially the humidity load, which is what makes or breaks comfort in Central Florida.
Learn about our blower door test
SEER is a lab rating. It assumes the ductwork is right, the system is sized right and humidity is handled. In a Florida home, those things are rarely true.
An oversized high-SEER AC still shuts off before it removes the humidity. Leaky or undersized ducts still waste the air it makes. The number on the sticker doesn’t change what happens in your house.
What lowers your bill is the design: the right size from Manual J, the right equipment from Manual S, ducts that deliver from Manual D, and testing that proves it works.
After installation we test again: airflow to each room, refrigerant charge, temperature and humidity. You get the numbers in writing, compared to the design. That’s how you know the system was designed and installed right, not just sold.
Yes. Every AC and heat pump replacement we install starts with a Manual J load calculation based on measurements of your home, never on square footage.
No. Manual J only tells you what your home needs. Without a correct Manual S equipment selection and Manual D duct design, the load calculation doesn’t produce a system that performs. We do all three together.
Manual S is how the equipment is selected to match your home’s cooling, heating and humidity load. Manual D is how the duct system is designed to deliver the right airflow to every room.
Because a load calculation is only as accurate as its inputs. Our blower door and duct leakage tests replace guessed numbers with your home’s real numbers.
Yes. The number of people, how rooms are used, cooking, showers, pets and home offices all add heat and moisture, so they go into the design.
It short-cycles, leaves humidity behind, can grow mold and wears out early, and the house feels cold and clammy instead of comfortable.
FL HVAC Services designs AC and heat pump systems with Manual J, Manual S and Manual D, backed by BPI-certified building testing, for homeowners across Central Florida, from Ocala and The Villages to Orlando.

Look up FL HVAC Services on Google and you’ll see a line most AC companies don’t have: “Home energy auditing recognized by the US Dept. of Energy.” Tap it and the Energy Skilled badge pops up, with a link to Energy.gov.
Nobody can add that to a business listing themselves. Not us, and not a marketing company. The U.S. Department of Energy verifies the credential and reports it to Google, and Google puts it on the listing.
What it means for your home: we look at your house and your AC as one system. How outside air leaks in, how humidity builds up, how air moves from room to room, and why some homes end up with stale, stuffy air that makes people feel worse inside than out. Then we design and fix your system for what your home actually needs.
